Subscribing to Parkinsn and Managing Your Mail
Parkinsn Online was created for those who prefer to view the messages and threads online rather than coming to your mailbox and sometimes overflowing it. Subscription to the Parkinsn List is a requirement for posting and following up messages to the list. The International language of the list is English. Foreign speakers can translate their native language into English at http://www.babelfish.altavista.com and paste the result into their email to the Parkinsn list.
The Parkinsn List is a high volume list that can send 40 or more messages to your mailbox and even in the Digest form of mail delivery it is difficult to manipulate.
Subscribing to Parkinsn is a Three Step Exercise
Parkinsn subscriptions are handled by a computer program that has a very limited vocabulary. It just understands words necessary to do its job. It does not understand signature lines in your email messages so turn the signature off when communicating with the listserv program.
Step One
When you are ready to subscribe, Click Here. Your email program will open with the address of the listserv already on the To: line of the message. In the body of the message replace the word MYFIRSTNAME AND MYLASTNAME WITH YOUR REAL NAME and send the message.

Don't try using my example name, Barbara Patterson the owner of Parkinsn will delete your subscription...use your real names not screen names or nicknames.
Check your mail from the listserve over the next hour or so. You will be receiving a message.
Step Two
The listserv verifies who you say you are and that someone didn't forge your address on the subscription by sending a verification message. The verification message will come back to the same email address that you were at when you sent the subscription message. All interaction with the listserv is predicated on using that same email account and username.
You reply to the verification message by clicking on whatever you click on to reply to email. Select all the text in that message from the listserv and there are a lot of words. Delete all that text in the body of the message.
Replace the text with TWO CHARACTERS. The letter O and the letter K are what the listserv is expecting back from you in reply to their message. Send the message.
Step Three
If you don't know how to handle large volumes of mail, we can fix it so that you can just read the mail here but still reply to parkinsn messages without all the hassle. This step is for those who have limited email accounts and would still like to participate in the parkinsn discussions.
There is a mail option to stop parkinsn mail from coming into your mailbox for a short time or forever and would still entitle your to all of the benefits of the parkinsn list.
