Edith,
You've said a mouthful.  Last night at the Christmas Eve service at
the Unitarian church, it wasn't exactly like a worldwide celebration.
It was more like an enclave where we were holding onto our little
peaceful corner, against the dangers and enmity outside.  The music
was glorious, but with so much of social import on our minds these
days, it's hard to block out the bad when it's time to celebrate the
good.

But in spite of all the bad, there is so much good out there as well,
and it makes sense to accentuate those things which give us hope,
things like the talent and potential of our kids to do well in a
future world that we will never know; things like the peaceful,
loving, ordinary people across the world who couldn't care less about
the governing group's policies, who just want to live a normal, quiet
life; about all the people who work to find answers to our needs and
those of other afflicted people; and those around us who make all the
difference in our lives.  Take heart, Edith, and remember that there
are folks who care about you, folks like us.
