 Here is one way to deal with abbreviations: go to Wikipedia 
(http://www.wikipedia.org; you can bookmark it for speed) and type the 
abbreviation you don't understand into the search bar. Then choose the result 
that makes sense in your context. Here, for example, is what you get from 
Wikipedia when you search for ESC: If you're on the Parkinson's list serve, you 
can bet you're not reading about the Edmonton Ski Club!
