I heard about this drug at PAN in February this year. And since I have high
blood pressure. My neurologist agreed to start me on isradipine. I've been
on it about 3 months so far (.25 2x) No miraculous results so far - BUT
my most troublesome symptom has totally disappeared - neuropathic pain. I
have suffered from neuropathic pain in my feet for the past 4 years - and
now it's been gone for 2 months! So I'm going to keep taking isradipine for
a year and see if other symptoms improve.

Subject: Re: Blood pressure drug may help stall Parkinson's say researchers

I have obtained a copy of the Nature article that prompted this report.

On reading it, there are a couple of things that are worthy of emphasis.

First, this was a study in mice, not humans. Second, the article offers

No explanation as to why isradipine (marketed as Dynacirc, as well as in

Generic formulations) was chosen, in preference to other calcium-channel

blockers.

The hypothesis is interesting and worthy of additional study, but seems to

be far from a PD cure.

This may seem naive but isn't there some database somewhere that

might help locate some folks with both Pd and high blood pressure?

Perhaps even some lucky ducks who have Pd and coincidentally taking

isradipine? Might those be people those researchers want to meet?
