Here's a point you might want to work into your arguments for stem 
cell research -
According to a history of medicine I've just been reading, the
government of Massachusetts was one of the first two governments to
legalize dissection of human corpses for research; a much-argued
matter at the time -just like stem-cell research now.
So American governments have not always been anti-new-research ideas.
